The article addresses the subject of semantics Spanish words and collocations containing roots -gr(i)eg- (-grec-, -gring-, etc.), -helen-, -bizant-, associated with Greece Greek culture. author analyzes etymology expressions way they are represented in two most reputable explanatory dictionaries, Diccionario de la lengua española (DLE) americanismos. In some cases, usage selected units is described reference to corpus data (Modern corpora — CREA CORPES XXI). study has revealed presence a significant proportion “learned borrowings” (“cultismos”), which explained by importance Ancient Byzantine culture for European civilization general Spain particular.
